Made to Measure
Made to Measure:
Clients who can visit our studio and take advantage of our made-to-measure service, will be impressed by the level of support and advice offered, from the first consultation through to the final fitting.
If you cannot visit us here in Scotland, we also regularly visit London, with what we have called: our ‘Roadshow‘.
On your first visit you will be able to thoroughly discuss your requirements with a designer who will also detail out the services Lindsay Fleming can offer. If necessary we will produce a sketch of your dream dress from the information you supply. We stock one dress from each of our styles, and these will be available for you to try on at your leisure. Your initial consultation would be free of charge and you should expect this to take anything up to two hours to complete. If you decide to choose a Lindsay Fleming dress, you will be given a fixed price for the order. Please be sure to check what is and is not included in the price.
Once the design has been finalised, the fabric chosen, and embroidery defined, you may visit us again to have your measurements taken. This however, may have already been done during your initial consultation.
The next stage of the made-to-measure process will involve us making a pattern followed by a ‘toile’ or ‘mock-up’ to your own measurements. Once this has been done we would ask you to visit to make sure that the toile is a perfect fit.
Only once your toile is a perfect fit, would the creation of your dress begin. This may take several weeks or months of elapsed time, during which you will be asked to visit for a number of fittings. The normal is two or three, however this cannot be guaranteed as each dress is unique and may have it’s own idiosyncrasies.
Finally, when your dress is ready for collection you will visit for your ‘final fitting’. However, on occasions we will require to make slight alterations in order that the dress is a perfect fit. This may therefore result in yet another visit before the dress is ready for collection.
Initial consultation / ordering: We suggest that you consider contacting us no later than six months before your wedding. However, this can change depending on the time of year, therefore you should always be prepared to contact us as early as possible.
Measurements: We would prefer to take your measurements no more than six months before the wedding to reduce the effect of any weight gain/loss.
Fitting the toile: Around four months before your wedding we would ask you to visit to try on your toile.
Fittings: Depending on the number of fittings required, these would start about one month after your toile fitting.
Final fitting: In a perfect world this would take place four weeks before your wedding. However this can vary greatly due to your own circumstances.
All consultations and fittings are included.
The cost of the chosen fabric.
Any predefined shipping and insurance.
All reasonable alterations necessary to ensure that the dress fits to your satisfaction.
Shipping and insurance if not requested at time of ordering.

The quoted price will be held for 28 days. Lindsay Fleming reserve the right to change this quotation after 28 days if an order has not been confirmed.
A 20% deposit of the total order price is required within this 28 day period to confirm the order and to contribute towards the creation of any pattern and toile.
Once the deposit has been paid, the price quoted will be fixed for the duration of the order or for a period of 36 months, whichever comes first.
See the section on cancellations for information on cancelling an order.
On completion of the toile, a second payment of 30% will be due. This will contribute towards purchase of the fabric and creation of the dress.
The second payment can only be refunded if Lindsay Fleming are informed in writing before any fabric has been ordered.
All outstanding amounts will be due on completion of the order and must be paid in full before collection/shipping.
Payments can be made by cash/cheque/credit or debt card/bank transfer. If the final installment is paid by cheque then we reserve the right to delay shipping until the cheque has cleared.
You may cancel your order at any time however:
Cancellations made before the toile fitting: 20% of the price of the dress (the deposit) will be retained by Lindsay Fleming to cover possible loss of business due to us keeping your place in our order schedule, and to the fact that we may have incurred bank charges, and to cover any labour and material costs.
Cancellations made after the second payment has been made: 50% of the price of the dress (the deposit + second payment) will be retained by Lindsay Fleming to cover possible loss of business due to us keeping your place in our order schedule, to the fact that we may have incurred bank charges and cost of materials, and to cover any labour costs.
Cancellations made less than 3 months before the agreed shipping/collection date: 50% of the price of the dress (the deposit + second payment) will be retained by Lindsay Fleming to cover possible loss of business due to us keeping your place in our order schedule, to the fact that we may have incurred bank charges and cost of materials, and to cover any labour costs.
Lindsay Fleming will retain ownership of all fabric and materials, whether the dress is complete or not, until any outstanding amounts have been paid.
If an order is cancelled, the customer must notify Lindsay Fleming by registered letter within 30 days of cancellation that they wish their dress to be retained for a future date, until any outstanding amounts have been paid. If the customer does not contact Lindsay Fleming by registered letter within 30 days, then Lindsay Fleming will become owner of the dress and all materials, and the customer will waive any rights they have to the dress/materials.
