If there is one Lindsay Fleming dress which cries out ‘Winter Wedding’ then that dress is most likely to be ‘Ros‘ from our ‘Celtic Spirit Collection‘.  We have been supplying the design since our company started back in 1997, and we have lost count of how many different colours and variations Ros has appeared in around the world.

The design is also one of the most popular we have when it comes to being chosen for photoshoots, with the most recent photographer to enquire being Duncan Holmes.  Based in the Scottish west coast town of Largs, Duncan who is originally from Yorkshire has a real love of photographing weddings.  On his website Duncan quotes, ”being a hopeless romantic, I think I was probably destined for this line of work”, and you can see from the images just how true that statement is.

When Duncan approached us to see if we would be happy to lend a few dresses we were of course delighted to help.   It is always a pleasure to have our designs photographed by yet another excellent photographer, and having seen the final images we are delighted with the outcome.  Especially since we were able to get a few shots of our cape design, ‘Raasay‘, which very rarely gets a chance to have fun along with her more well known ‘cousins’.

On the day of the shoot, Duncan took the dresses to Cornhill House Hotel near Biggar, and along with the skills of Midlothian based hair and make-up artist Dawn Weston, and lovely models Fiona and Rachael, he proceeded to create a great collection of images.

When Rioghnach first approached us and told us she was planning a wedding at the dramatic Dryburgh Abbey in the south of Scotland town of Melrose, we were captivated by the thought of one of our Celtic Spirit dresses finally making it into one of the most iconic  Scottish religious landmarks.

Rioghnach comments, “I wanted a totally outdoor Wedding so Dryburgh Abbey in Scotland was the choice of venue for a Welsh couple with Irish & Scottish ancestry, and given such a Celtic mix, a Lindsay Fleming design of dress was the obvious choice.“

With the Scottish weather being notoriously unreliable, choosing an outside venue such as Dryburgh Abbey is always going to be a risk, however the gods were obviously smiling on the day, and the ceremony went without a hitch.  Even the pet dogs enjoyed their day out in the borders.

A fantastic time was had by all as guests were treated to live music and singing throughout the whole day thanks to family and friends.   One of the highlights of the day was the supping from a quaich which had been filled with Welsh Penderyn whiskey.  This whiskey was also an important ingredient in the cake which was made by a school friend.

The Celtic knot work on the Iona dress was used as a template for the invitations, decoration around the cake and even symbolised on the mother of the bride’s hat designed by Laura Aspit Livens of Chester.

After a never to be forgotten day in the Abbey grounds, the wedding party retreated to have their Wedding Breakfast in Ednam House, and to dance away to the Ceilidh band until the ‘wee small hours’.

After the wedding Rioghnach was kind enough to contact us.  ”Thank you for creating such a beautiful and comfortable dress that coped with the rugged terrain of a ruined Abbey and swirling about the dance floor for the Ceilidh – I didn’t want to take it off!”

Year on year our paths cross many lovely and interesting brides-to-be, and Camilla from Sweden is yet another whose wedding we were honoured to have played such an important part in.  Although living and working in London, Camilla had struggled to find a dress she wanted to wear on her wedding day.  That was until she came across images of ‘Sabina‘ from our ‘Celtic Spirit Collection‘, and with her husband-to-be being a Scot, it just seemed like the perfect dress.  You can imagine how surprised she was when she found out that we regularly came down to London with our dresses, and that she could have one of our designs without the problems of travelling up to Scotland for all the fittings.

As with all our designs, flexibility is the key.  We are able to take any of our standard dresses and alter it to the clients specifications.  Camilla’s only problem was that although ‘Sabina’ was her favourite, she also liked our dress ‘Arran’.  After talking through the options with Grace and taking the time to think about both dresses, she decided ‘Sabina’ was the one, but with a subtle but unique difference.  Could we make ‘Sabina’ but incorporate the sleeves from ‘Arran’?  Of course we could.  So with that settled, the process began.  Over the following months, Camilla then was able to travel the short distance across town to see us when we visited Pimlico for our shows, and as the wedding rapidly approached, her dream dress was slowly taking shape with each visit.

Once a dress is handed over to our client we wait patiently to hear just how the big day has gone.  When we saw the images from Camilla’s wedding we were blown away at just how perfectly the dress suited her, and how once again it proved that the perfect attire for a ‘Sabina’ groom was a good old Scottish kilt.  Although Camilla hailed from Sweden the wedding was actually held on an island off the coast of Finland, yet another first for the Lindsay Fleming family of dresses.

As Scots and Swedes enjoyed the hospitality of their Finnish hosts, the bride and groom were being photographed by the talented StenroosPhotography from Mariehamn.  We hope you enjoy having a look at the beautiful images from Camilla’s and Ally’s very special wedding day.

Certainly not in the ‘Bigger’ household, California.

Back in the summer of 2010 we were fortunate enough to be contacted by Beth and Stephen from California, who’s dream was to travel half way around the world to the beautiful Isle of Mull, and be married at the fantastic Glengorm Castle. Beth had her heart set on a dress which would compliment the rugged Scottish backdrop and stunning garden setting. Meanwhile musician Stephen had his own ideas of how he wanted to look when he married the love of his life.

Living so far away, many brides would never consider buying a dress which they would first touch only a few days before their wedding, but Beth had her heart set on our popular ‘Sabina‘ design, and a few thousand miles was not going to stand between her and her perfect dress. So when she first contacted us, we were able to draw up a plan of action which would mean that the dress would be sitting waiting for her arrival in Scotland, and any minor alterations could be carried out here in Abington, when Beth and Stephen passed on route to Mull. The result was therefore, one perfect fitting dress and one very happy bride-to-be.

So on to the ceremony at Glengorm Castle, and what must rank as one of the most romantic photoshoots we have ever had the pleasure to see in all our years in this fantastic business. We don’t know if the the format of the photoshoot was Beth and Stephen’s idea, or if photographer Ewan Baxter was the brain behind the whole process, but the resulting images paint a unique picture of a very, very special day. Rather than a series of photographs, each of which capture a single moment from the big day, Ewan’s photographs storyboard the entire day as if he was planning the scene from a costume drama. Starting with the groom’s journey across the wilds of Scotland, the story unfolds before your eyes and culminates with the two newlyweds embracing as the light goes down on the most fantastic day of their lives.

With all their friends and family missing out on the big day, Beth and Stephen felt it only proper to have a celebration on their return to California, so they organised what looked like a very special second celebration at Santa Cruz just south of San Francisco. The one thing we would put our money on, even from this distance, is that the temperatures would have been a good deal more pleasant than on Mull.

When we changed over our website a few months ago, we had a vast number of fantastic images from clients weddings, and we realised if we did not re-blog on the new site, then the images of some wonderful weddings would be lost forever. So with this in mind, today I thought I would begin the task by doing a very short blog on one the most interesting weddings from the ‘early years’ of Lindsay Fleming.

Back in December of 2007 we were contacted by ‘Ivon’, who lived and worked in Dassow, Germany. Ivon had found our Celtic designs while searching for the perfect wedding dress for her up and coming Scottish Wedding, but for one reason or another had left her search rather late. With only four months before the wedding she was rightly concerned that we would not be able to create her dress in time. Add to that, the fact that she was inquiring about ‘Janel’, one of our most intricate designs, and was hoping to come over to Scotland to check out the dress in January before she confirmed. We therefore had quite a task in front of us as it was late January before we could start work on Ivon’s dress.

Eight weeks later we were delighted when, after a short stop at our studio on her way to the wedding, Ivon was thrilled with her dress. She commented, “I can’t believe the perfect fit when I only came once to the studio”. So with her dress safely over her shoulder, off she went with her husband-to-be, for her dream Scottish wedding. A few months later we were delighted to receive by email, images from Ivon’s big day, a few of which we can share with you now.

Buying your wedding dress over the internet is not for everyone, and we totally understand this. It is probably ‘the’ most important purchase you will ever make on-line and taking the plunge can be a very nerve-racking experience. Fortunately we have years of practice making your on-line experience as easy as possible. Take for example, Cecilia from Barcelona, who contacted us late 2010 in search of a medieval style dress for her wedding to Fiancé Shai, early in 2011.

“I am interest in the ‘Orlaith’ design with some small alterations.  Firstly I would like the sleeves to be open like in your ‘Iona A’ dress, and I would like the skirt to be more flowing, less rigid.

One other thing, we live in Spain and work a lot in Africa, therefore we would need to do the whole process using ‘mail order’.  We would not be able to come for any fittings.  Everything will have to be done by e-mail and telephone”.

Having assured Cecilia that her dream dress could be made to her exact specification without any logistical problems, we were once again excited about working with an overseas client, and to help make her dreams come true.  Over the next six months emails pinged back and forward, the mock-up made it’s round trip from Scotland to Spain and back again, before yet another Lindsay Fleming dress was ready to be sent out to an excited bride.

After the wedding Shai was kind enough to contact us to thank us for our help, and to send us a few images from the big day, which we are proud to share with you today.  

“The dress and the wedding were fantastic” he said.  ”Thank you so much for everything you did for us”.

It’s always such a wonderful surprise to open your emails and find some images of one of our finished dress worn by a beautiful bride, especially when you have never met either the bride or groom.  This is especially true when the dress has made such a long journey to yet another exotic location around the world.

It seems a long time ago since we first met Alessia and her then fiancé David, late 2010 to be exact, and when we contacted her recently to see if she would mind if we put her wedding images onto our website, we really did not know how easy it would be to make contact. Thankfully, now husband David, was quick to reply…

“ Of course, we would be delighted to feature on your new website, and Alessia has written a short testimonial for you to use.

While inside the church Alessia covered her shoulders with a cover made in Trieste which matched the dress very well, and she wore a veil that was also made there”

To make the news even better, David attached a number of images for us to share with you, our visitors, of their stunning wedding in Alessia’s beautiful home town of Trieste, in North-East Italy.

Alessia, who was living in the north-west of Scotland, travelled down to our studio on a number of occasions during 2010 and 2011 for all her consultations and fittings.  Her choice of dress, Sabina, has long been a favourite of our ‘Celtic Spirit’ customers, but rarely will Sabina accompany such a beautiful bride  (and handsome kilted Scotsman) to be married in such a lovely location.

We hope you enjoy the memories of Alessia and David’s wedding as much as we did.

One of the fantastic up-sides of doing a job like ours is the fantastically varied opportunities we are presented with in our day to day business life.  Whether that be making a beautiful dress for a beautiful bride: styling a really unusual photoshoot in a stunning location: or meeting new friends in the industry for the first time.  We are never sure what the next day will bring.

Speaking of new friends, our story starts back in February when sisters Lisa and Jacqueline Bell, owners of the stylish ‘Melle Cloche‘ on Glasgow’s Byres Road, contacted us completely out the blue.  The girls had seen our dresses quite a while ago and they said we were the first designer to come to mind when they were contacted by their clients Lisa & Alex.  ”Could we borrow a couple of dresses for what will probably be the most romantic/unusual wedding of the year?”, they asked.

When we heard the full story we were blown away by the fairytale which was Lisa & Alex’s story.

From a journey that started in July 2011, to March 2013 on the Argyll Coast and a stunning snowy Scottish Wedding, the travels and nuptials of Lisa and Alex are most definitely unusual.  Lisa and Alex, aka 2 People 1 Life are a couple in love, searching for the perfect place to get married.

How? By having a wedding ceremony in each country they visit.  They had always wanted to travel the world in search of a new home, new friends and a future together.  So they decided that they were going to do it, threw caution to the wind, sold all of their possessions and just set off.  They also decided that they would like to get married, possibly whilst on their trip of a lifetime.

They are now on that adventure of a lifetime, and it will see them drive and ship around the globe in their 25 year old camper van ‘Peggy’, exchanging vows in the most unusual and unique wedding locations they can find.  As they travel, they are looking to embrace the culture and local traditions of each place they visit.

They want to experience the differences in each ceremony and find out what it is that makes the bringing of two people together such a worldwide tradition.  They are also helping Unicef  through people like yourself visiting their Zank You Wedding Registry and donating a small (or very large) amount to the charity!  At the end of the trip they will pick their favourite place and go back to officially tie the knot, and one couple who donate will be invited to their wedding.

Images from the Scottish leg of their adventure was dually captured by Devon based ‘Warwick Photography‘ and the local, ‘Crear Photography‘, who also created a fantastic video memory of the day.

Graham from  ’Warwick Photography‘ said, “When I was asked to drive up to the other end of the country to capture some images of Alex and Lisa I jumped at the chance…. I mean what is there to not like, a couple with an amazing story, snow and amazing landscapes.

“Alex and Lisa are some of the most genuine nicest people I have had the chance to work with, plus they make an awesome curry.”

Local photographer Kate, from ‘Crear Photography‘ obviously is a little more used to the weather which can make capturing images West Coast of Scotland weddings both ‘challenging’ and ‘rewarding’.

“We had been snowed in just a day or two earlier with some of the worst weather in decades.  You can see how Lisa had to keep her socks and shoes on for some of the shots, but in the end we managed to capture some amazing images of the day.  As well as recording what was a really memorable day, the show just how beautiful the local area is, and how lucky we are to live here.”

‘Creal Photography‘, as well as being wonderful photographers also produced a fantastic video (below) of Lisa and Alex’s Scottish wedding.

When asked why the couple chose Scotland, Lisa replied, “We chose Crear because we wanted a location near Alex’s family hometown.  Alex’s Dad was brought up in Campbeltown and we wanted to have a ceremony close to ‘home’.”

“We also wanted to be surrounded by Scotland’s stunning nature. The weather did us a HUGE favour in that we had snow for the wedding (although I could have dressed a little more appropriately) and we also got the typical four seasons in one day but in around 30 minutes!”

“The sun shone, the wind blew, the snow fell and the clouds flew across the sky like time was sped up…it was an incredible day!”

When Lisa was told by Jacqueline and Lisa from ‘Melle Cloche‘ that they had managed to secure a couple of ‘Lindsay Fleming Couture‘ dresses, we are told she was delighted, as she had obviously spent many internet hours researching her wedding marathon.  We never really got the chance to speak but if you read this Lisa, we are delighted that we could be part of your big day.

The two dresses we supplied were ‘Clara‘ from the ‘All That Jazz‘ collection of twenties inspired dresses, and ‘Suisan‘, from our ‘Celtic Spirit‘ range.

As we could not be part of the big day, we were delighted to see such fantastic images later that week.  Graham is obviously a very talented photographer and we look forward to hopefully being involved again with him in the future.

Kind words from a lovely couple.

Katherine had seen her dream dress, ‘Ros’, as she said, several years earlier, and we were so lucky that she kept the promise she made to herself that one day she would wear it down the isle. After her initial trip to our studio, Katherine and Jason came down to our London Roadshow for the remainder of the dress fittings, and while Grace attended to the important issues, the dress, I had the envious task of entertaining Jason – normally down in the bar.

All joking aside, we were so thrilled when Katherine finally took her dress away. With her dream Lindisfarne wedding only weeks away, we just knew she would look beautiful on her big day.

After the wedding, we were overjoyed to be sent a lovely video of the big day, along with lots of fantastic photographs, and we were delighted that they kindly let us share their special day with you, our visitors. We hope you enjoy these special memories of a lovely couple and their day to remember!
