Readers who opened their Autumn 2012 copy of ‘Best Scottish Weddings‘ would have read an excellent article titled ‘Timeless Memories’, which described the wedding day of Julia Waclawski and Ross Niven.  Julia, from Glasgow, had first seen our designs on line and had noticed that we would be attending the wedding fair at ‘House for an Art Lover‘, the venue where she would eventually be married over a year later.

At the show Julia admitted that she found it had to make up her mind as to which of our ‘All That Jazz‘ designs she preferred, but felt that she had narrowed it down to two designs, ‘Gloria‘ and ‘Mary‘.  Finally after a visit to our studio in Abington, the decision was made. It was ‘Mary‘, a simple but sophisticated gown made in stunning silk velvet.

Over the following months, Julia methodically pulled together all her careful plans for her twenties inspired wedding, before finally picking up her dress in March 2012.

A few months later we were thrilled to receive an image by email from Julia’s big day, but even more excited when we heard that Julia’s wedding would be featured in the Autumn edition of the excellent publication,  ’Best Scottish Weddings‘.  The big day was beautifully captured by the talented Glasgow photographer, Gail Photography, whose images can be seen in the on-line copy of the magazine article, and on the Gail Photography website.

Mary Wows the House for an Art Lover – Award winning Vintage Wedding Dress Images by Archibald Photography.

One day Back in October 2009 we were delighted to receive a call from Donna Marshall at Archibald Photography .  As you may or may not know, we have been lucky enough to have Mark Archibald take the majority of the images on this website, including the ones on our favourite  ’All That Jazz‘ collection photoshoot at the fantastic ’House for an Art Lover‘.  Well it seems that Mark had achieved yet another award for his outstanding photography, a Gold Award at the SWPP monthly competition for September. The SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) has judging each month in a wide range of categories and each Gold Award winning image goes through to the final end of year judging for the overall award in each category.

The image chosen by the judges was this fantastic shot showing the lovely Lauren Tempany sitting at the ornate piano in the ‘Music Room’. I’m told that a Gold Award is deemed to be an “image of the highest standard” and will be published in Professional Imagemaker magazine.

I tried telling Mark that he wouldn’t have won it without a ‘Lindsay Fleming‘ dress in his photo but he just wouldn’t listen.

To let you see how difficult the judges decision was back in 2009, we have compiled a collection of our favourite Mary pics from the day. If you click on the pic at the top of the page we’re sure you will find it difficult to name your own favourite.

Just because Mary looks the least elaborate of our vintage wedding dress All That Jazz Collection, don’t drop your guard for one minute. If you let her, she will capture your imagination and steal your heart.

Mary is a 1920 wedding dress of beautiful simplicity, loose fitting, and the perfect winter wedding partner for our lavish twenties coat, ‘Lilian‘, or on it’s own for a hot summer afternoon wedding and evening reception.

Mary, Simple but Sophisticated – a Collection of Twenties Wedding Dress Images by Archibald Photography.

We love our dresses so much that we sometimes struggle to find a location for our next photoshoot.  Basically we believe that visitors want to see interesting images, not just beautiful dresses.  Whether that is true or not is debatable, but it gives us an excuse for a fantastic day out.

One of our favourite locations was Sara’s House, close to Abbey Road Studio’s in London. To show just how cool a location it was, we’ve pulled together a few great images of Mary from our All That Jazz collection, enjoying her day out.

Made from silk backed velvet, Mary is a sleek, seductive dress, with a look to die for.  Turn her around and you will find an extra surprise, as her low cut back drops down to a long tiered train trimmed with silk satin.  If you don’t believe us then just click on the ‘View all pictures’ above to see what we mean.

Greta and Mary, off to Devon for a vintage day out.

It seems like a long way do go for a photoshoot, but, hey, how often do you get to go on a ‘partly funded by the taxman’ trip to the glorious county of Devon? So we packed up a few of the dresses in the ‘All That Jazz’ collection into the back of the car, and headed off down the M74 to what hopefully would be warmer climes.

It may have been warmer but it certainly was not drier. Thank heavens the shoot was indoors, because it wasn’t even the weather to be photographing kagools, never mind wedding dresses. The shoot was actually being held close to the village of Mamhead in a grand old country house, a perfect setting for the dresses. It had been organised by Vicky Rowe from Vintage Tea Sets, who specialises in vintage china hire and the styling of antique and vintage tableware dating from the 1820s up to the 1950s. Vicky had pulled together a experienced team for the shoot, including the ever-popular photographer Rosie Parsons, and make-up by Sarah Brock.
