What makes a photo shoot special? The location? The model? Hair and make-up? Dare we say it, the dress? The obvious answer is all the afore mentioned plus the many other people who go into pulling everything together. However, the one piece of the jigsaw that must be on top form is the guy, or gall, who takes all the ingredients, mixes them up, and creates the final product. That person is the photographer.
When we recently visited Shieldhill Castle, near Quothquon in Lanarkshire, the purpose of our day out was to get some great shots of our new headdresses which you can see in the images in this post. However on the day of the shoot we surprised Mark Archibald our Photographer with a little extra request.
Isela, one of our bespoke wedding dresses had been sitting for several months crying out for a decent opportunity to finally get the quality of images we demand for our website. Here was the chance to finally make it happen. The only problem we had was the weather, and to a non-photographer like me, that seemed like a huge problem. When it’s the middle of winter and there are no leaves on the trees, it’s blowing a gale, and any second we could be running for cover, it seems to me like it is a photographer’s nightmare.
But not for the expert, and certainly not for Mark. “I love taking photographs with trees, and the fewer leaves the better.” He tells me that it’s the shapes, the twists and the turns, and the colours which fascinates him, and when I get back the images it dawns on me just what he means. Oh to have that eye for an image, makes me quite jealous.
However much I praise Mark and his work, we really could not get the quality of images we require without the talents of everyone who came on board that day. So hats off to a great team, and many thanks to:
