The brooch on the belt was of a Celtic knot design given to my mother by her father when she was a little girl.
Everyone said it had been the most personal and unusual wedding they had ever been to and were mesmerised by my stunning dress.”
When Rioghnach first approached us and told us she was planning a wedding at the dramatic Dryburgh Abbey in the south of Scotland town of Melrose, we were captivated by the thought of one of our Celtic Spirit dresses finally making it into one of the most iconic Scottish religious landmarks.
Rioghnach comments, “I wanted a totally outdoor Wedding so Dryburgh Abbey in Scotland was the choice of venue for a Welsh couple with Irish & Scottish ancestry, and given such a Celtic mix, a Lindsay Fleming design of dress was the obvious choice.“
With the Scottish weather being notoriously unreliable, choosing an outside venue such as Dryburgh Abbey is always going to be a risk, however the gods were obviously smiling on the day, and the ceremony went without a hitch. Even the pet dogs enjoyed their day out in the borders.
A fantastic time was had by all as guests were treated to live music and singing throughout the whole day thanks to family and friends. One of the highlights of the day was the supping from a quaich which had been filled with Welsh Penderyn whiskey. This whiskey was also an important ingredient in the cake which was made by a school friend.
The Celtic knot work on the Iona dress was used as a template for the invitations, decoration around the cake and even symbolised on the mother of the bride’s hat designed by Laura Aspit Livens of Chester.
After a never to be forgotten day in the Abbey grounds, the wedding party retreated to have their Wedding Breakfast in Ednam House, and to dance away to the Ceilidh band until the ‘wee small hours’.
